La Traviata Our emotionally stunning and acclaimed stylish 1930’s interpretation of Verdi’s best loved opera. A truly memorable and moving tale of hope, despair, and romance and just the type of intimate drama that Garden Opera excels in! A splendid combination of famous melodies sung by some of the profession’s finest singers, accompanied by our exceptional musicians that has been inspiring standing ovations up and down the country this summer. We are lucky enough to boast the presence of wonderful Violettas (La Traviata’s irresistible heroine). They deliver a truly enchanting performance that has captured hearts and imaginations everywhere we’ve been.We were recently invited to perfoem at the prestigious Southbank Centre in London where we entertained a sell out crowd and earned the prestigious accolade of being Time Out’s Classical Critics’ number one Choice. “Riveting” Sunday Mirror See our 2011 season dates

I Pagliacci & The Impresario New Production
In 2011 the Garden Opera company will be transformed into a riotous troupe of travelling players who’ll take over gardens nationwide to take you on a giddy ride through the parallel worlds of comedy and tragedy. Our vagabonds will introduce themselves through performing Mozart’s hilarious pastiche The Impresario. This is the opera world stripped bare, with its pretentions, sky rocketing egos and blind optimism laid out for all to see. A hilarious ‘casting couch’ comedy teeming with outlandish characters and sexual innuendo. After the hilarity of Mozart at his most playful we enter the inner world of the players in I Pagilacci. The veneer of performance is stripped away from our group of travelling clowns and the spotlight turns on their own lives. Leoncavallo's masterpiece is one of the most popular standards of operatic repertoire and a splendid example of the ‘verisimo’ operatic style that is perfectly suited to Garden Opera’s intimate and highly unique approach. A story about what might lie behind the clown’s smile and a tour de force of love, jealousy and disaster that will thrill audiences in a total theatrical experience. Featuring the stunning tenor aria Vesti la giubba, and packed with visual delights and inventive staging this promises to be one of Garden Opera’s most exciting outings to date. We’re delighted to welcome back Saffron van Zwanenberg who directed last years a Traviata with the perrier award winning Frank Watson providing the libretto for the Impresario.
